The Library is the realization of the dream of the Lloyd Brothers; John Uri, Nelson Ashley and Curtis Gates. The Library itself dates from the first books that John Uri bought during his pharmacy apprenticeship in 1864 in Cincinnati. By 1886 the brothers had gained control of the Merrell and Thorpe Company and renamed it Lloyd Brothers, Pharmacists, Inc.
